Dear Beloved Seniors,
As I sit here in a coffee shop in the cold of Reno, Nevada I can't help but think I'd rather be there at CVLCC giving you guys your FRQs. But alas, my duties are here so that I could better prepare myself as a more effective teacher when I get back from this training. Often times it'll seem like I just met the lot of you yesterday, but you've embraced me as if I have taught you for the whole year. Each of you has shown me an enormous amount of grace. "What the heck does that mean Mr. Liew??" What I mean by grace is that, despite your ongoing inconsistency of history teachers, you've managed to not hold that against me. Grace, in short, is receiving what you don't deserve. By position, I deserve to be untrustworthy, my loyalty probably deserves to be questioned regularly. But you've shown me in grace that you've welcomed me, and grown close to (in my mind at least) trust me. I love the diligence that many of you have in getting work done, I love the fun that you all bring to the classroom, and I love that despite every reason for you to be jaded in our government class, you all seem to hang onto every word I see when I teach and lecture. I love that I can feel comfortable being the only one cheering for you at your soccer games, or obnoxiously yelling at refs even though I have no idea what I'm yelling about. I love that you guys continue to thank me for going to your games even though it's probably more enjoyable for me watching your games. I'm seriously bummed that I don't get to teach you for another year but I know that each of you will be successful in your own right. I'm excited that you all are getting into colleges and many of you are finding your own path. I know senior year seems like a year to have fun, but believe me when I say this, the decisions you make now will shape your future. Now, before this gets all overemotional, we still have 3 more months together... so let's work hard (stop cheating... I'll find you...), make smart decisions (in and out of school), and grow together and love each other better (sometimes its not about being a good person, but rather about love). Love you guys! Mr. Liew (hopefully this was good enough Cyanne!)
